Introduction
Since early 2003, Mozenda has been using and developing new and innovative technologies for identifying and extracting web-data and converting it into valuable information. Over the past 2 years, Mozenda engineers have developed patent-pending technology that greatly simplifies the process of turning any website into a data feed. This process is accomplished through the creation of “Smart Agents”. Mozenda creates and maintains these Agents within the hosted Mozenda System. Mozenda Agent Console
Using the Mozenda web software, we can create, test and maintain Projects and Agents within the hosted Mozenda System. The application provides a simple point-and-click interface for defining the site navigation and location of desired data-fields within a targeted site's web-pages. Data schema, hierarchy and relationships are determined automatically by means of XPath navigation as well as page and field location algorithms. Data from the most complex websites can be extracted through a combination of absolute or relative-location and pattern-matching methods built into the Agent Console. Unlike most extraction software, with Mozenda, Agent creation is a quick and simple process that does not require programming or extensive knowledge of web-based technologies.
For example, below is the process we go through to retrieve simple product and pricing information for a sample digital camera.
Extracted data can be mapped to one or more data Repositories contained within an Mozenda Project. Agent execution can be scheduled in order to add or update existing data within a project's repositories.
Mozenda Management Console
The Mozenda Management Console is a Web 2.0 application that allows us to:
- Manage existing or create new Projects.
- Define data repositories for storing extracted data.
- Create custom data-views/filters/queries of data stored in repositories.
- Export data in a number of custom formats.
- Define custom feeds and other methods for accessing data views.
- Schedule Agent execution or run Agents on demand with optional parameters.
- View Agent execution status and logs.
- Add greater value to data through the creation of custom reports, charts and event-based alerts and tasks.
